    Prerequisite: Senior standing and permission of department chair;

     
    Description:  The threads that link concepts found in undergraduate mathematics and statistics will be discussed.  The transition from student to career will be addressed.  Students will propose and carry out a capstone project in statistics under the supervision of a faculty mentor.

    Description: The course provides an introduction to Swedish language and literature, as well as to Swedish culture and society. The students are expected to practice their skills in spoken and written Swedish. The course is required by all international students studying at Mid-Sweden University.

    Description: Introduction to dramatic and visual storytelling techniques.  Course includes critical study of various plays with emphasis on the production values by analyzing structure, genre, theme, style, character, and language.

    Description: Exposes students to the history, development, social relevance, and artistry of theatre abroad. Students will actively examine current trends in theatre within the confines of an international component. This area of study will culminate with an international experience.     Description: This course is the culmination of THEA 3080 . The students will experience international theatre first hand within the confines of a studies abroad program.

    Description: This course is designed to study the acting skills involved in performing various classical styles and texts which may include; but is not limited to, Classical Greek Theatre, the French Neoclassical and English Restoration Theatre, and the Elizabethan and Jacobian playwrights, including Shakespeare.

    Description: Training in the use of region-specific dialects common in theatrical performance. Topics include IPA transcription, sound substitutions, and resonant focus.

    Description: Examination of a selected topic relevant to issues of women or gender, offered on a one-time basis.
  
  • WGS 2050 - Women and Culture: Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies


    Prerequisite: ENGL 1020  
    Description: An introduction to fundamental principles of women’s and gender studies; the cultural construction of gender, the cultural roles, depictions and experience of women, past and present; and the impact of feminist movements nationally and internationally.  Service Learning Project included.
  
  • WGS 2060 - Introduction to LGBTQ Studies


    Prerequisite: ENGL 1020  
    Description: This course explores constructions of gender, sexuality and sexual orientation and critically assesses traditions and their effects on social policy, popular culture, law and government, science and politics.  Readings and research include history, social studies, activist publications, and memoir and film.  Service Learning Project included.
  
  • WGS 3050 - Women in the Arts


    Description: An interdisciplinary, cross-cultural survey of women in the arts. Major emphasis on the visual arts and literature, with attention also to the performing arts. Topics include both the contributions and depictions of women in the arts.
  
  • WGS 3060 - Vagina Monologues


    Prerequisite: ENGL 1020  
    Description: An intensive study of Eve Ensler’s script.   The course examines women’s sexuality, spirituality, interpersonal violence, media representations, and LGBTQ issues in national and international contexts.  Students produce the play as a Service Learning Project.

    Prerequisite: WGS 2050  or WGS 2060  or ENGL 2070  or COMM 3950  or SOC 1010  
    Description: This course examines women as subjects and objects in film, and women film-makers. Emphasis will be placed on analyzing films for constructions of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and class.
  
  • WGS 3080 - Women’s and Gender Studies Practicum


    Prerequisite: WGS 2050  or 2060  and six (6) hours of WGS courses; and junior standing.
    Description: A supervised professional and/or social justice work experience that synthesizes the student’s program of study. The student is responsible for negotiating with the director of women’s and gender studies for placement. The student, faculty supervisor and professional or community supervisor will develop a contract of academic and placement responsibilities.
