    A survey of all kinds of music widely available in present-day America, designed to improve listening skills and discrimination.
  
  • MUS 2140 - Introduction to Jazz Harmony

    Prerequisite: MUS 1190  and permission of instructor
    Spelling and analysis of chords and the creation scales characteristics of jazz.  Class time will be used to analyze and practice material created by established jazz artists.
  
  • MUS 2141 - Jazz Harmony Performance

    This course extends the Intro to jazz Harmony course providing a lab experience, with either a live or a recorded rhythm section performing in the jazz style, allowing the students to improve their improvisational skills in a controlled environment and apply skills discussed in previous course.

    An examination and application of elementary music curricula, resources, and pedagogical approaches of Kodály, Orff, Jacques-Dalcroze, and Gordon.  Additional topics include assessment, technological applications, PRAXIS preparation, and guitar, recorder, and Orff-instrument proficiencies.
