Description: This course examines Roman history from the beginnings to the fourth century of our era: the origins of Rome, Greek and Etruscan influences, institutions and values of the Roman republic, the rise of Rome to world empire, social and political conflicts, the transformation from free republic to imperial despotism, the Pax Romana, the barbarian threat, the persecution of Christianity, the reforms of Diocletian and Constantine, and the Roman legacy.
