HIST 5049 - The English Civil War: 1640-1660

Description: The course will investigate the primary causes of the English Civil War, such as the problem of sovereignty, law and council, the problem of finance and the economy, the problem of war and foreign policy, and the problem of religion;. The course will also look at questions about what should be the state religion of England, and who determines religious policy;-the king, Parliament, bishops, the communities or all of these. Lastly the course will look at the relationship between Westminster and the English locales.
