Description of Major

The Medical Laboratory Science major is recommended for students interested in pursuing a career in the clinical laboratory, biomedical science, forensic science, public health, or medical research. In addition, the Medical Laboratory Science major is excellent preparation for professional or graduate school careers in research or industry. APSU has a four-year, campus-based program including affiliations with area hospitals. The courses which comprise the senior year include both campus-based didactic courses and practical courses at affiliate hospital clinical laboratories. Upon successful completion of the four-year program, a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (BSMLS) is awarded. A certificate is awarded for completion of the professional program.

Accreditation

The Medical Laboratory Science (Medical Technology) program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences and approved by the Medical Laboratory Board for the State of Tennessee.
