Art History Concentration


Accreditations

All programs in the Department of Art & Design are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.


Admission Requirements

Admission to the B.F.A. and B.A. program is by application (usually at the end of the sophomore year), providing the student has met the following requirements:

1. Completion of: ART 1340 , ART 1350 , ART 1045 , ART 1360  

2. Completion of a Portfolio Review in which the faculty will vote based on the quality of the student’s work.  Should faculty vote to deny entrance to the program, the student may appeal and/or re-apply the following semester.


Description

The Art History concentration will provide students with a depth of knowledge in the history of art across time and global cultures. Students will develop strong research and art writing skills, visual and interpretive analysis, and technical art-making skills in two different media. The modern language courses required for the BA degree is practical and necessary for art historical research (it is recommended, but not required that students study French or German).
