The Department of Chemistry at Austin Peay State University is nationally certified by the American Chemical Society, devoted to student success, and prepares students for a wide variety of career options.  Our mission is to educate students to independently and critically think, apply chemical concepts and principles to better understand the scientific world, and help them to become scientifically literate. We use innovative pedagogical and research strategies to engage students and cultivate a passion for chemistry and scientific learning.   

Graduates directly enter the workforce as highly skilled chemists or teachers, or pursue further education upon entrance to professional schools, including graduate programs in chemistry, medical schools, pharmacy schools, and dental schools.

Concentrations


Biochemistry


The biochemistry concentration provides a curriculum well suited for students with interests at the intersection of chemistry and biology. This concentration is interdisciplinary and sets forth a curriculum geared toward professional heath-related careers and prepares students for entry into the biotechnology workforce or for graduate school in the biomedical sciences. Pre-professional health majors (pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-pharmacy, etc) are encouraged to follow this program.
