The predental curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of the College of Denistry of the University of Tennessee at Memphis. Most predental students complete a bachelor’s degree before entering dental school. A degree in absentia is available from APSU upon satisfactory completion of the first year of dental school, provided degree before in absentia requirements have been met a (see University-Wide Degree Requirements).
Program Requirements
Admission to dental schools is competitive. Applicants should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 with grades of “C” or better in required prerequisites. The DAT (Dental Admissions Test) should be taken in the spring semester of the junior year.

It is strongly recommended that elective courses be chosen from the following: biochemistry, upper division biology courses (e.g., genetics, comparative anatomy, developmental biology, cell biology, histology, microbiology, molecular biology, physiology, and neurobiology). Suggested non-science coursework should be selected from the courses in social sciences, philosophy, psychology, business administration, economics, public speaking, and computer science.
