The Department of Psychological Science and Counseling at Austin Peay offers a Master of Science in Industrial-Organizational Psychology (MSIO) online degree program through the Austin Peay State University Clarksville campus.
The field of industrial-organizational psychology is centered on understanding work from a psychological perspective. Through the program, students are trained in I-O psychology theories and research methods, studying application in work settings such as industry and government. Students develop expertise in a variety of areas, including personnel assessment and selection, training and development, performance appraisal, motivation, team performance and leadership.
Studies in this field allow students to apply knowledge about psychology to organizations, contributing to the success of organizations by improving employee performance and wellbeing.
The Industrial-Organizational Psychology program is offered completely online and courses are offered on a fall and spring semester schedule on the Clarksville Campus. The priority application deadlines are March 1 for fall terms and November 1 for spring terms.
Program Specific Admissions Requirements (GRE scores, Writing Sample, LORs):
The Industrial–Organizational Psychology program semesters through the APSU Clarksville campus requirements:
- Cumulative undergraduate minimum GPA of 2.5
- Bachelor’s degree, conferred in any field (with 12 credit hours of Psychology or equivalent courses)
- Receipt of admission from the I-O Psychology department selection committee
- GRE Scores - Verbal (minimum 143) and Quatitative (minimum 137) exams
Admission to the I-O Psychology program is competitive and selective. Applicants who are admitted typically have a GPA of 3.0 or above and/or GRE scores of 140 or above for the quantitative section and 146 or above for the Verbal section. All documents are reviewed during the consideration process. Priority admission will be given to applicants whose files are completed and who meet admission requirements prior to March 1st for fall admission and November 1st for spring admission. Later applications will be considered if there are spots open after March 1st or November 1st.
