Students earning an M.A.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction will focus on one of five concentrations:

 

* The Instructional Technology concentration may be pursued without licensure.

The Master of Arts in Education in Curriculum and Instruction (30 credit hours) provides opportunities for students with teacher licensure to enhance their knowledge and skills in their chosen academic discipline and to pursue credentials that will enable their upward mobility in the education profession.

Instructional Technology


This concnetration is for persons wishing to provide leadership in instructional technology, for teachers who want to advance their teaching skills through the use of technology, or for those interested in preparing for work in a training environment. Completion of this degree does not require teacher licensure. The program addresses the selection, application, and evaluation of technology with classroom work and hands-on in the field projects. Graduates of the program work as building level technology leaders, trainers, and, as teachers with improved technology skills.

  • Official scores on the General test of the GRE with minimum 142 verbal and 139 quantitative scores
  • Military documents (if applicable)

Advanced Studies


This program provides an opportunity for advanced studies and continuing professional development in one of the areas listed below. The program is designed for those holding a teaching license. Persons without initial teaching licensure should contact the graduate coordinator.

Admission Requirements

Listed below are the required application materials and the associated scores (if necessary) for each.

  • Application for admission
  • Application Fee:  $45 domestic or $55 international
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended
  • Verification of lawful presence in the United States (i.e. submit a license or other approved document)
  • Bachelor’s degree, conferred in any field, from a regionally accredited institution showing a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75
  • Candidates with a 2.75 -2.99 GPA must provide an official GRE (minimum 142 verbal, 139 quantitative) or MAT (385) score; this requirement is waived for candidates with a 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Military documents (if applicable)
  • Admission decision by department

Mathematics


This is an advanced degree appropriate for teachers who are licensed in high school mathematics, middle school education, or elementary education.

  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended
  • Verification of lawful presence in the United States (i.e. submit a license or other approved document)
  • Bachelor’s degree, from a regionally accredited institution showing a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75
  • Official scores on the General test of the GRE with minimum 142 verbal and 139 quantitative scores (for candidates with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or higher, the GRE may be waived)
  • Teacher Licensure is required
  • Military documents (if applicable)
  • Admission decision by department

Elementary and Middle Grades Science


The Elementary and Middle Grades Science Education concentration is designed as a non-licensure program for practicing teachers to provide the knowledge and skills required for elementary and middle grade teachers to become effective classroom science teachers as well as science education curriculum leaders.

Secondary Science


The Secondary Science Education concentration is designed as a non-licensure program for practicing teachers to provide the knowledge and skills required for enhancing the effectiveness of secondary classroom science teachers and for the development of science education curriculum leaders.
