This performance-based curriculum for prospective school administrators is based on the standards set by the Tennessee Instructional Leadership Standards (TILS). This program is designed to prepare candidates for educational administrative positions. The program is designed to be taken by cohort groups (30 semester hours). Upon completion of the program and required licensure exams, the student will receive a Master of Arts in Education and be eligible for licensure as a Tennessee school administrator.
Listed below are the required application materials and the associated scores (if necessary) for each.
Admission Requirements
- Application for admission
- Application Fee: $45 domestic or $55 international
- Official transcripts from all colleges attended
- Verification of lawful presence in the United States (i.e. submit a license or other approved document)
- Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (or 2.75 with GRE scores of 143 verbal and 140 quantitative or Miller’s Analogies Test (MAT) score of 385).
- Official GRE or MAT scores
- A valid teaching or administrator license
- Three full years successful teaching experience
- Acquire a letter of support from two practicing administrators who agree to mentor the aspiring administrator throughout the program (300 hours of Field Based Experiences)
- Participate in a program entrance interview
- Complete an On-Demand writing assignment
- Submit a portfolio containing:
- Formal evaluations (3)
- Philosophy of Education
- Three (3) letters of recommendation
- Military documents (if applicable)
- Admission decision by department

Endorsement
Licensure as an administrator from the Educational Leadership Studies Program requires passing the Praxis Series School Leadership Licensure Assessment (code 1011 with a minimum score of 160) for Tennessee and Kentucky. Kentucky also requires Kentucky Specialty Test of Instructional and Administrative Practices (minimum score of 85% to pass). Research Requirements
