Emergency Management Minor

The Emergency Management Minor at Austin Peay State University prepares students to take action when it matters most. Grounded in FEMA’s national competency areas, this program gives students the knowledge and skills needed to plan for, respond to, and recover from both natural and human-made disasters. Students will explore how communities can reduce risks, strengthen resilience, and manage crises—from hurricanes and wildfires to cyberattacks and pandemics. Courses emphasize practical skills such as hazard analysis, emergency planning, and effective communication under pressure. The EM Minor is ideal for students interested in public service, homeland security, public administration, or any career requiring leadership and problem-solving in high-stakes situations. Graduates will leave with a strong foundation in risk management, strategic planning, and the coordination skills essential to today’s emergency management professionals.
