As an APSU student, a majority of your time is spent OUTSIDE of the classroom. Make it count by joining one of our student organizations or clubs, taking part in a leadership opportunity or attending a special program or event.
The Office of Student Life and Engagement is the nexus of student involvement and provides information regarding student organizations, programming opportunities, leadership development, campus activities and events. Students have the opportunity to join the Govs Programming Council and provide fun events for fellow students. Students can also apply to join the Student Organization Council, the oversight body for all student organizations.
Recognizing the important role that student life plays in supporting the co-curricular mission of Austin Peay and the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Student Life and Engagement connects academic and out-of-class experiences through programming and leadership development that establish a diverse, interactive and responsive learning community. The Office of Student Life and Engagement prepares students to be citizen leaders with an understanding of the global community and a commitment to service.
Adult, Nontraditional, and Transfer Student Center
Location: Morgan University Center, Room 112
The Adult, Nontraditional and Transfer Student (ANTS) Center provides encouragement, engagement, and a convenient lounging space for degree seeking adult learners, nontraditional and transfer students. This population includes students who are unique from others because they have multiple roles they assume in addition to being a student. These may include spouse, parent, caregiver, full-time worker, distance learner, veteran, and undergraduate student over the age of 24. The center’s mission is to reach out to students and engage them through relevant and educational programming. The center also aims to help our large and growing transfer population transition into student-life at APSU. Almost 30% of the university’s undergraduate population are classified as transfer students. The ANTS Center aims to create programming that helps increase transfer student involvement while easing the stressors of changing institutions. Transfer students are encouraged to stop by the center at any time for assistance with getting involved or finding resources at their new university.
Further, the center is a safe space where students can share their educational journey, difficulties and triumphs. In such a space, self-efficacy grows, along with the relationships and cohort-building that add meaningful and lasting impressions of the college experience. The center includes a computer lab, kitchenette, TV, lactation space and comfortable furniture. It is in the center that adult students realize they are APSU ANTS, red and black, small but strong, and the best at using cooperation and teamwork to get the job done. The ANTS Center is open Monday- Thursday, 7:30am to 6:00pm; and Fridays until 4:30pm during the regular semester and as needed during summer, winter and spring breaks. Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center
Location: Clement Building, Room 120
The Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center is an important University entity dedicated to providing knowledge and programming about the historic and contemporary contributions, achievements, and social perspectives of African Americans and other people of African descent. The Center’s mission is intertwined with the University’s goals relative to the creation of a collaborative, integrative learning community that fosters critical thinking inquiry and self-reflection necessary in a global society. The primary purpose includes aiding in the retention of all students, particularly African American students, and educating and motivating all students to be highly aware and appreciative of the diverse cultures that define the contemporary world.
Through its provision of many student-centered and student-oriented programs, events, and special services that highlight intersectionality with an emphasis on the African American culture, the Center plays a vital role in encouraging students to utilize their diverse and inclusive experiences and commit to serving their communities within the framework of their educational and social aspirations. Ultimately, the Center aims to motivate students to take their rightful place as professionals and other social leaders in American society, specifically, and in the global world.

Fraternity and Sorority Affairs oversees all social/social service fraternities and sororities on campus. Individual chapters are members of representative governing bodies (College Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, and National Pan-Hellenic Council) that promote leadership development, excellence in scholarship, community service, philanthropy and positive interfraternal relationships.
Social fraternities and sororities are active participants in University programs, activities, and special events, and are well known and respected for their many volunteer, service, and fundraising contributions to the local community and national philanthropies. A high percentage of campus student leaders are members of sororities and fraternities at Austin Peay. Membership in social fraternities and sororities is the result of a selection process known either as “Intake” or “Recruitment.”

For the students, by the students. The Govs Programming Council (GPC) is the major student programming organization on campus. It is made up of committees that allow students to give input into the selection of recreational, social, diversity, and educational programming. Students gain hands-on experience with the planning and implementation of campus-wide events. General membership in the GPC is open to any undergraduate APSU student, while executive members must meet a GPA requirement, leadership experience, and preferably have experience with the organization as a general member. Meetings are most Mondays at 5pm in MUC 307.

The Hispanic Cultural Center is an important University entity dedicated to providing knowledge and programming about the historic and contemporary contributions, achievements, and social perspectives of Latinos and Hispanic Americans. The Center’s mission is intertwined with the University’s goals relative to the creation of a collaborative, integrative learning community that fosters critical inquiry and self-reflection necessary in a global society. The primary purpose includes aiding in the retention of Hispanic and Latino students, and educating and motivating all students to be highly aware and appreciative of the diverse cultures that define the contemporary world.
The Hispanic Cultural Center also serves as a place where Hispanic and Latino students can connect meaningfully with and take great pride in their heritage in a nurturing environment. Through its provision of many student-centered and student-oriented programs, events, and special services, the Center plays a vital role in assisting Hispanic and Latino students to incorporate in their educational and social aspirations a commitment to serve their communities; and that they are highly motivated to take their rightful place as professionals and other social leaders in American society, specifically, and in the global world.
The Hispanic Cultural Center is open to all students who identify with the Hispanic or Latino culture, are taking courses in Spanish, love the Hispanic culture and/or are interested in learning more about the Hispanic culture. The Hispanic Cultural Center’s motto is: “Where strangers become amigos and amigos become familia.”

Location: Dunn Center, Room 141
Austin Peay State University competes at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I level in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Athletic Department sponsors men’s teams in football, basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, and cross country; and women’s teams in volleyball, basketball, tennis, cross country, softball, golf, indoor and outdoor track, and soccer.

The Military Student Center assists veterans, active duty, reservist, national guardsmen, retirees, ROTC students, and family members that attend the university with their transition from the military to college life. The center provides a computer center, a lounge, and dining area to allow students to either work on homework or to relax and unwind from the day surrounded by fellow likeminded students. The center offers programs throughout the academic year to address the unique challenges our student population faces. One such program is the Texts for Vets program which relies on textbook donations to provide textbooks to students free of charge. The center also helps to resolve academic and personal issues for military-related students. The center works with a diverse population of students. In order to meet the needs of this diverse population, the center works closely with other campus offices – Disability Services, Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs, Registrar’s Office, Career Services, Student Counseling Services, VetSuccess On Campus, etc. to ensure the student’s needs are being met. The center is located in MUC Room 120 behind the Post Office and is open Mon. – Thur. from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Fri. from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Arrangements can also be made for other availability to meet student’s needs.
The National Alumni Association of Austin Peay State University is an organization designed for the purpose of promoting the welfare of the University through the development of a program of mutually beneficial relations between the alma mater and its alumni. The association was founded in 1936 and became a national association in 1990. Its membership consists of graduates, former students, and friends of the University. It is governed by a Board of Directors elected from its membership. The mission of the organization is to serve the University by providing an association for interaction among alumni, students, faculty, and administrators; and to encourage financial support for the academic programs, student scholarships, and general development of the University, as well as provide assistance in the recruitment of new students.
The headquarters of the APSUNAA and the Alumni Relations Office is located in the Pace Alumni Center at Emerald Hill.

The three branches of the Student Government Association consist of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial bodies. The purpose of the Student Government Association is to be the voice of all students by connecting students to other students, faculty, staff, and administration in order to improve the quality of student life and strengthen the Austin Peay State University community.
The Executive Committee is comprised of the President, Vice President, Executive Secretary, and Chief Justice. The legislative power of the SGA is the Senate that consists of representation from each class and college. The Judicial branch is the Student Tribunal and serves as the highest student court. The Student Government Association is advised through the Office of Student Affairs by the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students and by the Director of Student Conduct/Case Manager.

Student organizations provide a valuable service to the campus community by promoting leadership development, community spirit, activism, public service, and social and cultural interaction. As a student of Austin Peay, you have the unique opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities in more than 130 clubs and organizations. The focus of these organizations can be social, religious, political, educational, economic, or athletic in nature. APSU uses PeayLink to connect organizations to students. Each organization has a page; you can learn about what they do, how to be a member, and who to contact to get involved. Joining an organization is only a few clicks away!
The Student Organization Council (SOC) serves as a liaison between student organizations for the purpose of planning and implementing programs and events. The council is the governing body for student organizations responsible for the allocation of funding and providing information to student organizations on changes in policies or procedures.

Student Publications provides marketing, design and production of publications, promotions, multimedia, and web support for the Division of Student Affairs. The department is responsible for producing and publishing the APSU Student Handbook and Calendar in addition to many other projects. The department provides a practical learning environment for students to build skills and experience and enhance lessons covered in related courses. Student staff can develop a portfolio of work samples in an array of disciplines that includes journalism, writing, graphic design, marketing, photography, advertising, web design, and multimedia.
The All State
Student Publications houses the award-winning student-run newspaper, The All State. Since 1930, The All State has served as APSU’s student-led newspaper and is a means for the expression of student opinion and medium for the dissemination of timely news relevant to the campus community. The All State has earned a vast array of awards at the state, regional, and national levels.
In addition to print, The All State maintains and operates a digital edition at www.theallstate.org. The All State is on Facebook here, Instagram (@theallstate_apsu) and Twitter (@TheAllState). The All State is produced and managed by students with the guidance of the Coordinator of Student Publications. Scholarships may be available for student staff.
Writing, design, leadership, multimedia, photography, advertising, and editing positions on The All State are open to application for all qualified students of any major. The department provides an area for students to gain resume-worthy experience, work samples, and build practical skill sets in a unique and engaging environment. Foy Fitness and Recreation Center
Our mission is to provide the APSU community with opportunities to develop and enhance all aspects of wellness through quality recreational facilities, programs, and services.
The Foy Fitness and Recreation Center offers a wide array of recreational and physical fitness opportunities for the Austin Peay community. It features a fitness center, three multipurpose courts, three racquetball courts, indoor track, climbing wall, cycling studio, and two group fitness studios. In the Fall of 2019, a racquetball court was converted into a Functional Training Room. This exciting new space offers room for exercises previously unavailable such as tire flips, battle ropes, sled pushes, and suspension training. Balls, games, and various fitness equipment are all available at our equipment checkout desk at no additional cost. University Recreation also offers outdoor recreational opportunities. Outside, members are able to enjoy our swimming pool with lap lanes and ample lounging space. During summer months, we offer “Learn to Swim” programs and private swim instruction for youth and adults from instructors certified by the American Red Cross.
While University Recreation’s facilities are top-of-the-line, our programs and services may be our pride and joy.
- Our Group Fitness schedule is exceptionally diverse, including dance, mind/body and general fitness classes for all abilities. Group Fitness classes are free with Foy access. For those looking for a more specialized fitness program, patrons can request sessions with one of our certified Personal Trainers, or sign up for Boot Camp to work out in a group setting. We also offer Aerial Silks, a circus art where movements are performed partially or fully suspended from aerial fabrics.
- Those who are looking to compete recreationally and/or competitively are encouraged to participate in our Intramural Sports program or perhaps competing on one of our Sport Club teams. Intramurals is a great way to stay active, on campus, while competing in a variety of sports while Sport Clubs allows for competition off-campus against other club teams from other Universities. Depending on your level of commitment, both are great options!!!
- Govs Outdoors (GO) offers trips/outings aimed to empower and connect people through unique and exciting experiences. These experiences are meant to provide participants space to grow and develop skills while having fun in the great outdoors! Each person will be an equal member of the group on these trips, regardless of skill level. Housed in the front of the Foy Fitness and Recreation Center, the GO Center also provides camping equipment, canoe and other rentals for those looking to take on their own outdoor adventure.
- The Foy Pool access is included in your Foy Center membership! This includes students currently enrolled at the Clarksville campus, APSU faculty/staff, and paid members of the Foy Fitness and Recreation Center. The Foy pool also offers several different choices when it comes to swim lessons. We offer American Red Cross group lessons from the Parent & Child level through Learn-to-Swim level 4. After level 4, we encourage swimmers to join our Fitness Swimmer Camp where swimmers enhance their technique and learn competitive swimming skills. APSU is proud to also be able to offer private and semi-private swim lessons for those wanting a more tailored, one-on-one instruction. Reservations of the pool can also be requested for private events or parties.
- Jr. Govs Camps offers three summer camps for children ages 5-15. Our Little Peayple Camp provides 5 weeks filled with sports, games, off campus field trips, aquatic activities, indoor rock climbing, and arts and crafts for children 5-8. Our AP Adventurers Camp provides 5 weeks filled with sports, aquatic activities, robotics, outdoor adventures, rock climbing, and local field trips for ages 9-12. Our Govs Outdoors Teen Camp, for ages 12-15, provides 2 weeks of outdoor adventure around the Clarksville area. Each recreation-based summer camp provides programming to promote healthy lifestyles among children.
- We are proud to now offer adaptive resources at the Foy Fitness and Recreation Center, and we strongly believe everyone should be able to participate in physical and recreation activities. Along with our handicap accessible entrance, elevator and locker rooms we offer a variety of services and equipment to meet your recreation needs.
Nearly all of University Recreation’s facilities, programs, and services are available to fee-paying students and full-time faculty/staff at no additional cost.
