The Global Education Office provides transformational educational programs which unite credit-bearing academic coursework with off-campus learning opportunities in locations around the world. The Global Education Office supports the mission of Austin Peay State University by promoting innovative study abroad, study away, and educational exchange opportunities which inspire our students to gain not only a deeper knowledge of their chosen academic fields of study and future career paths, but also a deeper understanding of themselves and their role as global citizens.

The Global Education Office is committed to providing a wide range of off-campus educational programming, which contributes directly to students’ graduation plans by providing course credits either in the general education core or in academic majors and minors. Students at every level are encouraged to explore their opportunities to participate in study abroad, study away, and educational exchange.

  • Study Abroad Programs involve credit-bearing, academically rigorous courses which include travel and study in countries outside of the United States. The off-campus travel component typically lasts from one week to six weeks. Some study abroad classes meet on campus or online during Fall, Wintermester, Spring, Maymester, or Summer terms, then spend time abroad to supplement their classwork. Other study abroad classes take place entirely in the study abroad location. Most APSU study abroad courses are taught by APSU faculty and result in 3-6 course credit hours.

  • Study Away Programs are identical to study abroad programs described above, but involve travel to destinations within the United States. Study away programs allow students the opportunity to study and live in American destinations of cultural, geographical, and historical significance.

  • Educational Exchange Programs last one semester or one full academic year, and include study at accredited colleges and universities both within the United States and internationally. APSU maintains agreements with many international partner institutions and also partners with third-party providers which allow APSU students to enroll in educational programs across the U.S. and multiple countries worldwide.

The Global Education Office is committed to serving the APSU community by:

  • Striving to ensure the academic integrity and educational value of all of our off-campus educational opportunities;

  • Developing a wide variety high-quality study abroad, study away, and educational exchange programs across disciplines and within the general education core;

  • Removing barriers to off-campus educational opportunites by offering affordable programs of various short- and long-term durations;

  • Working with students as well as our partners on and off campus to secure scholarships, grants, financial aid, and other sources of funding;

  • Promoting the role of study abroad, study away, and exchange programs as valuable high-impact educational experiences which develop students’ career competencies, global awareness, and personal potentials;

  • Partnering with APSU’s faculty, staff, and administration across colleges and academic units in order to build, assess, and maintain off-campus educational programming which meets APSU’s high standards for excellence.

Students are encouraged to begin planning to align study abroad, study away, and educational exchange opportunities with their degree completion plans from the moment that they have decided to become Govs. The Global Education Office offers many opportunities for students to explore program options and ask questions, including two annual Study Abroad Fairs, many visits to classrooms and recruitment events, and workshops and presentations. In addition, students are encouraged to review our program options at the Global Education Office website (https://www.apsu.edu/global-education/index.php), and to contact us in order to schedule an advising session.
