SW 4430 - Social Policy3 Credit Hours Description: Exploration of the process by which problems and issues in society are turned into rules, regulations and laws. Focus on the transition from private troubles to public issues in such areas as divorce, mental illness, welfare, child abuse and the response of society to the needs of oppressed groups such as single parents, the elderly, women, gays and lesbians, and people of color. The role of social work and social workers in society is investigated, as well as the history of social welfare in the United States, and the role of institutions in the delivery of services to people in need.
