CPSY 8050 - Advanced Seminar in Multicultural Counseling Psychology

Credit Hours 3
Prerequisite: Admission to the Counseling Psychology PsyD program
Description: This course provides an overview of issues related to multicultural counseling. Students will learn theories and models of multicultural counseling, patterns of cultural identity development, the effects of power, privilege and oppression on identity development and functioning, and will explore counseling and advocacy strategies to address the needs of diverse cultural populations. Students will
also engage in activities aimed at increasing awareness of their own culture and of how their culture influences their worldview and their ability to engage with clients who have different worldviews.
