CPSY 8610 - Counseling Military Couples and Families

Credit Hours 3
Prerequisite: Admission to the Counseling Psychology PsyD program
Description: The purpose of this course is to foster awareness and build knowledge of the unique issues that face military personnel and their families, thus preparing students to work with military families in clinical settings. The use of family systems therapy techniques in working with military personnel and their families will be emphasized. Students will learn about the unique culture of military life and explore the different stages of the deployment cycle and its emotional impact on the service members and their families. Other topics include common issues that arise between military couples, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their effects on military personnel & their families.
