Admission Criteria

  • Entrance into the BFA Theatre/Dance program is by way of a successful audition and/or portfolio review and interview.
  • Acting/Directing, Dance, and Musical Theatre students must submit a resume, head shot, two letters of recommendation, and up to date transcripts that indicate cumulative GPA of high school and/or previous college work at the time of audition.
  • Design students must submit a resume, personal photo, two letters of recommendation, and up to date transcripts that indicate cumulative GPA of high school and/or previous college work at the time of interview.
  • Scholarships are only awarded to students who have been officially admitted by the university.
  • Departmental scholarship applications are due by March 15. Scholarship applications for incoming students will be available at the audition and interviews.
  • Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in the major and 2.5 overall GPA to continue in the program.
  • Grades less than “C” will not be counted in the major.
  • Earning a grade less than “C” in any major course will cause the student to be ineligible for casting or other department production positions. If grades do not improve the student may be released from the program.
  • Continuation in the program requires an Annual Review. More than one negative review at any time in the program may lead to dismissal from the program.
  • Most Theatre/Dance classes are restricted to BFA/BA majors and minors. Exceptions must be approved by the Chair of Theatre/Dance.
  • All BFA Acting/Directing and Musical Theatre students are required to audition for all productions. Students must accept roles as cast. As an extension of classroom work, frequently BFA Design students will be assigned to a show and must accept the position.
