Criminal Justice (B.S.)

The Criminal Justice/Homeland Security degree is available at the Main Campus, the Fort Campbell location, or online.  The Criminal Justice/Homeland Security degree program prepares graduates for careers in the fields of Criminal Justice and Homeland Security with an applied approach grounded in theory. Graduates will be able to take on the challenges of the future, including terrorist threats, disasters, and emergencies.

Concentration:  Homeland Security must be declared as a Concentration and students must also select any Minor offered by the University. Recommended Minors are Public Management, Emergency Management, Nonprofit Administration, Global Security Studies, Political Science, Psychology, or Sociology.  (Criminal Justice Majors may not take the Criminal Justice Minor.)

General Education: 42 Credit Hours


General Education Courses are classes from several different subject areas required of all students in BS, BA, and AS degree programs and are in addition to the course work required in the major.

General Education Core (see TBR Common Core):                   41 credit hours

University-Wide Freshman Seminar Requirement APSU 1000:     1 credit hour

Minor: 18 Credit Hours


Minor: Students must choose any** Minor from the University Bulletin

**Criminal Justice Majors may NOT choose a Criminal Justice Minor

Electives: 21 Credit Hours


Electives should be selected in consultation with an academic advisor to achieve maximum benefit from the degree program.  The electives may be taken from any college/school of the University.

Upper Division Requirements


To receive a Bachelor of Science degree, thirty-nine (39) credit hours of upper division courses are required.  Upper division includes any courses numbered 3000-4999 (if a lower division course is substituted for an upper division course, the hours remain at the lower division level).
