Description of Major

Engineering Technology is a multi-discipline major with industry specific concentrations in Automotive Systems Design (AAS and BS, 2+2; ETAC of ABET Accredited), Construction (AAS and BS, 2+2; ETAC of ABET Accredited) with a Civil specialization (BS only), Electronics (AAS; ETAC of ABET accredited), Electrical (BS, 2+2; ETAC of ABET Accredited), Manufacturing (BS; ETAC of ABET accredited), Mechanical (BS; Preparing for ETAC of ABET accreditation), and Mechatronics (AAS and BS, 2+2; Preparing for ETAC of ABET accreditation).  Each concentration has been designed to meet the needs of local, regional, and national industry relative to the specific concentration.

Major Core Requirements


Automotive Engineering Technology


The BS degree in Engineering Technology with a concentration in Automotive has two paths of study.  The Automotive option prepares students to work in the Automotive Systems Design or the Automotive Manufacturing fields.  The Mechanical option prepares students to work with the Mechanical Design and Implementation of complex mechanical components of the automobile.

Construction Engineering Technology


The BS degree in Engineering Technology with a concentration in Construction has two paths of study.  The Construction option prepares students to work as a Construction Contractor in the in the building construction industry.  The Civil option prepares students to work as a Civil Engineering Technologist with with specialized knowledge in wood, steel, and concrete designs.

Electrical Engineering Technology


The BS degree in Engineering Technology with a concentration in Electrical has two options of study.  The Electronics option prepares students to work in industry as a Electronic Repair Technician and/or Electronic Communication specialist.  The Robotics option prepares students to work in industry as a Robotic Repair Technician and/or Robot Integrator in the manufacturing industry.

Manufacturing Engineering Technology


The BS degree in Engineering Technology with a concentration in Manufacturing has three options of study.  The Subtractive Manufacturing option prepares students to work in industry as a Manufacturing Engineering Technologist with a primary responsibility of managing manufacturing operations.  The Robotics Manufacturing option prepares students to work in industry as a Robotic Systems Operator, Robotic Systems Integrator, and/or Manufacturing Cell Design and Implementation specialist.  The Additive Manufacturing option prepares students to work in manufacturing as a Prototype specialist, Reverse Engineering Specialist, and/or a 3-D Design and Manufacture specialist for complex options that are not suited for subtractive processes.

Mechanical Engineering Technology


The BS degree in Engineering Technology with a concentration in Mechanical is designed to prepare students to work in industry as specialist in Mechanical Design and Implementation.  Mechanical Engineering Technologist are specifically trained to fully understand and apply the complex designs created by Mechanical Engineers.

Mechatronics Engineering Technology


The BS degree in Engineering Technology with a concentration in Mechatronics prepares students to work in the Automation and Control, or Manufacturing industries as an Automation Systems Design Engineering Technologist for the design and implementation of automated systems.
