Description of Major
The APSU General Studies Major is designed for those who have completed an associate’s degree and anyone with earned college credits and who has not completed another bachelor’s degree. It is a non-licensure degree option that allows flexibility for students maintaining family, military, and employment obligations and is broad-based to allow for a more individualized approach to degree completion and/or pursuit of two or more minors. The student completes one the following concentrations: Arts, Education (Non-Licensure) , Health, Humanities, Multi-Disciplinary, Organization Administration and Supervision, Social & Behavioral Sciences , and STEM.

Concentration
Choose one (1) concentration to complete a minimum of 36 credit hours, with at least 18 credit hours of upper-division coursework.
Program Free Electives
Select 39 credit hours of elective credit from any discipline.
Arts Concentration
The Arts Concentration provides students the opportunity to choose courses from numerous fields that apply to Art, Dance, Music, and Theatre. It may serve as an appropriate stepping-stone for admission into graduate
school.

Education (Non-Licensure) Concentration
The Education Concentration, while not providing teaching certification, draws from education-related disciplines related to children, adolescents, and their families. These topic-specific courses will help students to obtain their career objectives. Students with this concentration might work with pre-school aged children, after-school programs, paraprofessionals, and other youth oriented activities and social agencies. In addition, this concentration may serve as an appropriate stepping-stone for seeking initial teacher licensure at the master’s level. Students completing this concentration will need to meet Milestone I in the teacher education program. It may be possible to complete this area of emphasis online.
Health Concentration
The Health Concentration draws from a number of disciplines to explore healthcare issues, public health topics, and factors related to physical and emotional well-being. It will provide a generalist’s understanding of the vast array of concerns that affect health professions. Students might work in health departments, health education settings, and organizations that do not require specialized skills. In addition, it may serve as a stepping-stone for
graduate studies.
Humanities Concentration
The Humanities Concentration provides students the opportunity to choose courses from numerous fields that apply to the humanities. It may serve as an appropriate stepping-stone for admission into graduate school.

Multi-Disciplinary Concentration
The Multi-Disciplinary Concentration allows students to combine any two APSU minors. It may serve as an appropriate stepping-stone for admission into graduate school.

Organizational Administration and Supervision Concentration
The Organizational Administration and Supervision Concentration, while not a degree in business, allows students to obtain knowledge in an array of management disciplines. Students may craft their individual degrees by combining courses in numerous fields that correspond with their personal career goals. It may also serve as a stepping stone for graduate studies.
Social and Behavioral Sciences Concentration
The Social and Behavioral Sciences Concentration provides students the opportunity to choose courses from numerous fields that apply to society, human behavior, and social relationships. It may serve as an appropriate
stepping-stone for admission into graduate school.
STEM Concentration
The STEM Concentration provides students the opportunity to choose courses from numerous fields that apply to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. It may serve as an appropriate stepping-stone for
admission into graduate school.
