Description of Major

Three concentrations are available to students under the Communication Media major. Students are offered a wide array of courses leading to successful careers in Broadcast Media, Journalism, and Sports Communication. All students majoring in the department must complete the following courses in the general education core: COMM 2045  . A minor is required for all majors and must be from an outside department. Due to accreditation standards, students cannot take COMM courses to count in their minor.

Major Core Requirements


Broadcast Media Concentration


Graduates in broadcast media are prepared for careers in a variety of broadcast and related areas, including on-air performance, behind the scenes operations, directing, audio and video production, promotion and management.

Journalism Concentration


Journalism majors develop skills for careers at newspapers, book and magazine publications, as well as a variety of Web-related careers.

Sports Communication Concentration
