Program Student Learning Outcomes


  • Have a strong understanding of theories relating to communication research, practical application, and context in current society.
  • Have an increased appreciation for the multifaceted nature of motivation, power, heterogeneity, as those things relate to leadership and communication.
  • Have a strong understanding of communication concepts that can be used to critically evaluate the assumptions, theories, and evidence supporting conclusions about media effects. 
  • Have a strong understanding of communication concepts that can be used as part of critical-cultural analysis of media products and practices.
  • Have a strong understanding of specific issues in communication law, such as libel and slander, invasion of privacy, prior restraint, copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property law issues, as well as the ability to identify conflicts between legal and ethical requirements in the mass communications practice areas.
  • Have a strong understanding of communication concepts relating to interpersonal, intercultural, and organizational interactions.
