Program Description
 

The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology offers two concentrations; Exercise Science and Pre-professional. Both concentrations will prepare students to sit for the Exercise Physiologist Certification through the American College of Sports Medicine, the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist test through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and prepare students for graduate study in Kinesiology or Exercise Science. The Pre-professional concentration will prepare students to apply for entry into professional programs such as Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), and/or Athletic Training.

  • Students will be able to evaluate a unique test subject’s movement competency during a lab practical.
  • Students will be able to critique fundamental resistance training exercises during a lab practical.
  • Students will be able to develop population specific nutritional recommendations. 
  • Students will be able to differentiate between concentric and eccentric contractions.
  • Students will be able to compare different types of research design on a written exam.
  • Students will be able to critique common errors in APA style on a sample research manuscript.
  • Students will be able to identify anaerobic and aerobic training adaptations.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate competency in exercise testing.
  • Students will be able to analyze peer reviewed literature related to a special population and design an exercise prescription based on best practices.
  • Students will be able to create periodized exercise programming based on a client’s needs analysis and Fundamental Capacity Screen (FCS) results. 
  • Students will be able to modify exercise programming within their selected periodization model based on client’s internal and external training load monitoring data.
