The National Security Studies major will cultivate analytical and critical thinking skills, open opportunities for career advancement, and prepare graduates for further academic endeavors. This major will foster opportunities for the general student body, active duty military personnel, and retired military personnel.

- Identify general knowledge of the history, processes, and institutions that constitute US National Security.
- Demonstrate a comprehension of U.S. national security strategies and challenges.
- Identify and compare the security institutions, strategies, and challenges of allies, strategic competitors, and non-state actors.
- Apply formal writing and oral communication to researching and analyzing issues, problems, or information gaps in various national security contexts with attention to proper delivery format and citation.
- Demonstrate comprehension of key concepts, theories, and strategies in at least one area of the student’s chosen applied security concentration.
