German Certificate

This Undergraduate Certificate in German fills the needs of students who are not majoring or minoring in German, but who needs to obtain an advanced level of German for life and a career in International Business, Communication, or Government Service in a German-speaking part of the world. With Volkswagen and more than 100 other German companies in Tennessee and neighboring states, this will increase the changes of graduate in technical fields on the job market. With our military affiliation, soldier and spouses being stationed in Germany will also benefit from the certificate. Coursework for the Certificate in German includes Germ 2020 (intermediate German II) and 12 additional hours of coursework in German language, literature, and culture at the 3000 and 4000 level. Please note that no more than 6 credit hours of Study Abroad may be utilized for this certificate.

Program Student Learning Outcomes


  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of the culture in German-speaking countries, know how to interact on the business stage with German partners, and demonstrate the appropriate proficiency in German at level B2-C1 of the European reference framework.
