Accreditations
All programs in the Department of Art & Design are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
Admission Requirements
Admission to the B.F.A. and B.A. program is by application (usually at the end of the sophomore year), providing the student has met the following requirements:
- Completion of: ART 1340, ART 1350, ART 1045, ART 1360
- Completion of a Foundations Portfolio Review in which the faculty will vote based on the quality of the student’s work. Should the faculty vote to defer entrance to the program, and the student wishes to reattempt the review, they may do so the following semester. Upon a second deferral, a student is denied entrance to the program.
Foreign Language Requirements
The BA requires completion of courses in a foreign language through the 2010 and 2020 Intermediate level. We recommend taking 1000-level Foreign Language courses that can also count as Humanities/Fine Arts Gen Ed Core.
Description
The Art History concentration will provide students with a depth of knowledge in the history of art across time and global cultures. Students will develop strong research and art-writing skills, visual and interpretive analysis, and technical art-making skills across two media. The modern language courses required for the BA degree are practical and necessary for art historical research (it is recommended, but not required, that students study French or German).
