American Government Concentration B.A.

The B.S. in Political Science with a concentration in American Government offers students an in-depth understanding of the institutions, processes, and political behavior that shape governance in the United States. Students explore how power is exercised and contested in the federal system—from Congress, the presidency, and the courts to state and local governments, political parties, and interest groups. Coursework emphasizes the study of policymaking, public opinion, elections, and constitutional development, while cultivating skills in research, critical thinking, communication, and civic leadership.

This concentration prepares students for a wide range of careers that engage with the American political system, including law, legislative and executive service, policy analysis, advocacy, journalism, campaign management, regulatory compliance, and civic or nonprofit leadership. Graduates are equipped to interpret complex political dynamics, evaluate public policy outcomes, and contribute thoughtfully to democratic governance in professional, educational, and community settings.
