RDG 4020 - Teaching Reading

Prerequisite: Milestone II Corequisite: RDG 4010, SPED 4340
This course includes the scope and sequence of skills, assessment, organizational strategies, materials and methods of listening, speaking, writing, reading and thinking for preschool and primary grade students. The interrelatedness of these skills stressed through activities that teach children of all cultures to think and communicate. This course includes a specific focus on diagnosing and addressing the needs of struggling readers and looks at reading instruction across the five areas of reading (phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, and flency). A field experience is required. Milestone II is required to Teacher Education is also required. This course must be taken as part of Pre-Residency.
