IHSJ 2500 - Health and Social Justice

Credit Hours 3
Description: Drawing from interdisciplinary perspectives, this course is designed to highlight the systemic correlates of health and disease. Students will develop an understanding of inequities in health outcomes related to race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual identity, gender identity, and other sociocultural factors. Students will explore health consequences of chronic stress related to experiences of discrimination, oppression, poverty, working and living conditions. This course will employ experiential activities such as journaling and facilitated discussion groups to promote self-awareness and foster a sense of belonging. Students will develop a personalized self-care plan and will consider strategies to promote social change.
