SW 5140 - Military Social Work (effective Spring 2022) Credit Hours 3 Description: This course is designed to develop competence in providing services to active duty, reserve, National Guard, veterans, and their families and the overall culture of military life. It focuses on a wide range of challenges, strengths, and interventions that social workers need to learn and utilize in practice when working with this population from an advanced generalist perspective. Students will also learn the range of physical, mental and psychosocial issues resulting from the stresses of deployment and combat and the stressors faced by military members during all phases of their careers from introduction to military life to retirement. Special attention will be paid to the unique stresses families of military members encounter.
