Educational Leadership Studies, M.A.Ed.

(30 semester hours)

This performance-based curriculum for prospective school administrators is based on the standards set by the Tennessee Instructional Leadership Standards (TILS). This program is designed to prepare candidates for educational administrative positions. The program is designed to be taken by cohort groups. Upon completion of the program and required licensure exams, the student will receive a Master of Arts in Education and be eligible for licensure as a Tennessee school administrator.

Admission to the Educational Leadership Program is a two-step process.  The first step is admission to the College of Graduate Studies.  Admission requirements for the Educational Leadership Program requires the candidates to:

1.    Have an undergraduate GPA of 2.75

2.    Attain a minimum GRE Verbal Score of 143 and GRE Quantitative Score of 140 or MAT - 385 or above.

The second step is formal admission into the Educational Leadership Program.  The following requirements must be met upon completion of Educ 5710, Introduction to School Leadership. 

  1. Acquire a letter of support from two practicing administrators who agree to mentor the aspiring administrator throughout the program.

  2. Three years successful teaching experience

  3. Participate in a program entrance interview

  4. Complete an On-Demand writing Assignment.

  5. Submit a portfolio containing:

    1. Formal Evaluations (3)
    2. Philosophy of Education
    3. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation
    4. Valid Tennessee Teaching License
    5. Formal Leadership Growth Plan

 

Total: 30 Hours


Endorsement


Licensure as an administrator from the Educational Leadership Studies Program requires passing the Praxis Series School Leadership Licensure Assessment (code 1011 with a minimum score of 160) for Tennessee and Kentucky.  Kentucky also requires Kentucky Specialty Test of Instructional and Administrative Practices (minimum score of 85% to pass).

1.  Completion of Educ 5720 - Research and Decision Making

2.  Completion of Capstone Project
