Education Specialist, Ed.S.
Education Specialist (Ed.S.) - 30 semester hours
The Education Specialist program is designed to permit students to achieve a degree level higher than the master’s. The major is Education with concentrations available in Administration and Supervision (licensure and non-licensure), Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and School Counseling.
Admission Requirements
Listed below are the admission requirements for each of the Ed.S options. Please note that there are requirements for the College of Graduate Studies (CoGS) and for the College of Education (COE) (please see parentheses next to each criteria for this information). The documents that are required for CoGS are to be sent to gradadmissions@apsu.edu and those for COE to the graduate coordinator.
Listed below are the required application materials and the associated scores (if necessary) for each.
EDS Elementary, secondary and school counseling
- Application for admission
- Application fee: $45 domestic or $55 international
- Official transcripts from all colleges attended (send to CoGS)
- Verification of lawful presence in the United States (i.e. submit a license or other approved document) (send to CoGS)
- Evidence of an earned Master’s degree showing a GPA of 3.25 (send to CoGS)
- Official scores on the General test of the GRE with minimum 145 verbal and 140 quantitative scores (send to CoGS)
- Submit a valid teaching certificate (send to COE)
- Have a record of successful teaching experience (send to COE)
- Military documents (if applicable, send to CoGS)
- Admission decision by department
EDS Administration and Supervision with Principal Licensure (EDS A&S ELS):
- Application for admission
- Application fee: $45 domestic or $55 international
- Official transcripts from all colleges attended (send to CoGS)
- Verification of lawful presence in the United States (i.e. submit a license or other approved document) (send to CoGS)
- Evidence of an earned Master’s degree showing a GPA of 3.25 (send to CoGS)
- Official scores on the General test of the GRE with minimum 145 verbal and 140 quantitative scores (send to CoGS)
- Acquire a letter of support from two practicing administrators who agree to mentor the aspiring administrator throughout the program plus an additional recommendation (send to COE)
- Complete a screening interview (send to COE)
- Complete a leadership assessment (send to COE)
- Submit a valid Tennessee teaching certificate (send to COE)
- Have a record of successful teaching experience for a minimum of three years (send to COE)
- Military documents (if applicable, send to CoGS)
- Admission decision by department
EDS Administration and Supervision (EDS A&S):
- Application for admission
- Application fee: $45 domestic or $55 international
- Official transcripts from all colleges attended (send to CoGS)

- Currently hold a Tennessee or Kentucky Administrator’s License and have completed a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision – Instructional Leadership (send to CoGS)
- Military documents (if applicable, send to CoGS)
- Admission decision by department
EDS Non-Public Non-Licensure
- Application for admission
- Application fee: $45 domestic or $55 international
- Official transcripts from all colleges attended (send to CoGS)
