The Center for Service-Learning & Community Engagement exists to support and encourage the collaboration between APSU and the needs of the community through curricular and co-curricular programming. Our vision is to provide the space and opportunity for students to become active citizens from the classroom into their community. The center offers students a wide variety of opportunities to become involved in the community: from one-time volunteering, to semester long service tied to an academic course (Service - Learning courses). Students can participate in national and international alternative break experiences or live on campus in our residential volunteer based living community.
In addition to our outward focused programs, we have a student initiated campus food pantry and garden program that supports APSU students experiencing difficult circumstances. Students can utilize and/or volunteer with our food pantry, free thrift store, victory gardens or chickens. Students are recognized for their involvement with community service through awards and are encouraged to make community engagement a lifelong commitment.

Student Counseling Services
Location: Ard Building
Website: http://www.apsu.edu/counseling
Student Counseling Services is located in the Ard Building at 524 College Street. Licensed professional counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and psychologists provide evidence-based care to APSU students. Students are assessed a health service fee each semester that covers office visits. Each of our professional staff members has unique areas of expertise and therapeutic styles, and we pride ourselves on helping students find just the right therapist to meet their needs. In counseling you and a trained therapist work together to better understand yourself, to cope with specific issues, and/or to improve your overall well-being. Personal and group counseling sessions may address a variety of issues, including adjustment to college, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, stress management, low self-esteem, alcohol and drug abuse, grief, and sexuality.
Student Counseling Services operates out of a brief therapy model, with students being eligible for up to 12 counseling sessions per year. All currently enrolled APSU students are eligible for our services, which are confidential and free of charge. Students may call 931-221-6162 for an appointment. For additional information or to take a free self-assessment, please visit our website at www.apsu.edu/counseling.
Boyd Health Services
Location: Ard Building
Website: https://www.apsu.edu/health-and-counseling/boyd-health-services/visitinfo.php
Boyd Health Services is located in the Ard Building at 524 College Street. Board certified physicians and nurse practitioners provide evidence-based health care to APSU students, staff, and faculty. Students are assessed a health service fee each semester that covers office visits, meaning that most office visits are free of charge (staff and faculty seeking services through the clinic are required to pay a small access fee). Any additional charges for medications or laboratory tests received in-house are typically billed directly to one’s student/staff account. Services available include visits for illness, minor injury, sexual health, family planning services, well-patient physical examinations, allergy injections, immunizations/tuberculin testing, laboratory services, and health education. Some illnesses or conditions fall outside our scope of service, and so occasionally we refer patients out into the community for care. In these instances the patient is responsible for any expenses incurred.
No medical services will be provided until a medical history is completed, signed, and filed. In addition to this initial record, Boyd Health Services reserves the right to require additional examinations and/or immunizations during any time the student is enrolled at the University.
Sickness and Accident Insurance
Students are strongly encouraged to have comprehensive health insurance during their time of enrollment at the University. Assistance in researching and selecting insurance options can be found on our website at https://www.apsu.edu/health-and-counseling/boyd-health-services/visitinfo.php
Office of Disability Services
Location: University Center, Room 114

A person with a disability is someone with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. A person is considered to be a person with a disability if he/she has the disability, has a record of the disability, or is regarded as having the disability.
Accommodations are academic adjustments or auxiliary aids that provide equal access to programs and services. A few examples are print and audio materials in alternate formats, extended time or taking an exam in a minimal distraction area, recording a lecture or having a note-taker and assistive technology to read and navigate a computer.
It is the responsibility of the student to register with the Office of Disability Services and request accommodations. The first step is to complete an Intake Form. The form can be accessed from http://www.apsu.edu/disability/forms. Students are encouraged to contact the office for guidelines pertaining to the specific documentation required. The Office of Disability Services can be contacted at (931) 221-6230 Voice or (931) 221-6278 TTY, Morgan University Center, 114.

To request tuition reduction for disability, you must submit this documentation for each term of enrollment. Requests must be submitted prior to the last day of registration. Decals are obtained from public safety/campus police upon the presentation of a license or placard issued by any state specifically to the person requesting the decal. Decals may be obtained by visiting public safety/campus police at the Shasteen Building, 133. Temporary permits are issued under the authority of public safety/campus police and entitle the bearer to the same parking privileges for short periods of time.
Accessibility Committee
The committee has the responsibility for developing policies related to the services and activities for people with disabilities on campus. In addition, the committee should monitor questions relative to procedures and access, and make recommendations directly to the president concerning these matters.

Public Safety - Campus Police
website: https://www.apsu.edu/police/index.php
The APSU Campus Police station is open and staffed 24 hours a day, and is located in the Shasteen Building behind the football stadium. Campus Police Officers patrol all institution property by automobile, electric vehicle, and by foot. The sworn officers attend the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy (TLETA) and are certified/meet state standards and requirements.
The jurisdictional area extends to all facilities owned, operated, and leased by the Board of Trustees, as well as public roads and right-of-ways contiguous to that property. They are armed and empowered with the same arrest authority as city and county officers. Campus officers work closely with local and state police and emergency officials, and share a common radio network. Police officers are augmented on campus by security officers and by the Student Patrol, which assist in parking and traffic control and in security during special events, and provide a security escort service for students during evening hours. Other crime prevention programs run throughout the year, including crime prevention briefings and a program for recording and engraving serial numbers on valuable items of property. Public Safety is also responsible for coordinating homeland security efforts and APSU’s Emergency Preparedness Plan. For more information, contact Campus Police at 931-221-7786. For emergencies call 9-1-1.

University Housing
Location: Miller Hall, Room 121
Website: www.apsu.edu/housing/
The University believes that life in campus housing provides students with an essential part of the educational experience. Living in a residence hall/apartment affords students opportunities for involvement in learning communities, campus activities, shared responsibilities and community experiences. Since the majority of students’ study and involvement patterns are formed early, the University requires that all full-time single freshmen students under 21 years of age, not residing with their parents or legal guardians, must reside in University housing and participate in a University meal plan while in University housing.
The University has accommodations for approximately 1,900 students. Single students are housed in residence halls, generally two to a room, or Meacham Apartments and Hand Village, four to an apartment, under the supervision of professional and student staff. Honors housing is available and living-learning communities are located in Harvill Hall, and buildings 300 and 400 of Hand Village. One, two, and three bedroom apartments are available for married students, single parents with dependent children, or single students age 21 or older with no dependents.
All resident students must provide their own bed linens, towels, and other personal accessories. Students are responsible for the care and cleaning of their rooms. Laundry facilities are available in all residence halls/apartments. Internet and cable provided. All residences are smoke free.
Application for University Housing should be made online through your AP OneStop account. Housing contracts are for the full academic year (fall and spring semesters including winter break) and renewed annually. Please refer to Housing Licensing Agreement for fee adjustment policies and deadlines.
