MATH 1000 - Conceptual and Quantitative Mathematics

Credit Hours 3
Prerequisite: This course is designed to develop and strengthen quantitative, algebraic, and statistical reasoning. Topics include:

  • numeracy with an emphasis on estimation and fluency;
  • manipulating and evaluating expressions and formulas;
  • probability and data interpretations, including graphs and tables;
  • multiple representations and interpretations of functions, including verbal, numerical, algebraic, and graphical;
  • measurement conversion and dimensional analysis, including dosage and solution rates;
  • variable relationships;
  • proportional thinking, including conceptual understanding of percentages, rates, and ratios;
  • interpreting linear equations, linear inequalities, and linear systems;

Integrated within the course content are activities designed to develop mathematical mindsets that lead to success in future quantitative reasoning courses. This course is offered as elective credit and does not fulfill a mathematics general education course credit.
