Description of Major
Radiologic Science is more than X-rays and ultrasounds. It’s an obligation to physicians who depend on radiographic images to diagnose diseases and injuries. Mission Statement
The mission of the Radiologic Science Program is to provide training in the field of imaging science. The goal of the program will be to fulfill the needs of healthcare providers in the community and surrounding regions. Serving people by being a provider requires critical thinking and technical skills to offer the best possible care. To prepare the students to meet these requirements, they are provided with various levels of training. This training includes theory, clinical practice, didactic learning, laboratory testing, and competency testing in the clinical setting. Upon successful completion of the program, graduating students will be prepared to meet the requirements for an entry-level position in radiology.
General Information
Admissions to Austin Peay does not guarantee acceptance to Radiologic Technology Programs (Radiography, Radiation Therapy, Nuclear Medicine). These programs are very competitive, and only a limited number of students are admitted each year.
Applications are due February 28th of the year prerequisites are completed.
In order to apply, the student must:
Be admitted to Austin Peay State University.
Complete and submit the application by the application deadline. Only completed applications will be considered for admission.
Radiography applicants must complete 24 observation hours in a radiography department prior to application.
Have completed prerequisite courses, maintaining a calculated GPA above 2.5.
Further admission requirements (for ranking of applicant pool):
CALCULATED GPA: A minimum calculated GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Grades for general education core and radiologic technology prerequisite courses will be used to calculate the GPA for admission.
If a student attempts a course more than once, the grades from every attempt will be used to calculate the admission GPA.
All general education core and radiologic technology prerequisites must be completed prior to starting radiologic technology courses. If a conditionally accepted student fails to successfully complete all prerequisite courses with a “C” or better (“B” or better in Chem 1010/1011, 1020/1021, Phys 1010/1011, 1020, 2021) the student will not be permitted to begin courses.
An alternate admission list may be established to fill vacancies that might occur before the beginning of class. Students who are not accepted must reapply to be considered for another admission cycle.
Students not accepted may opt to pursue the general concentration in radiologic technology.
