Emergency Management Minor

The Minor in Emergency Management (EM) at Austin Peay State University was carefully developed based upon the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) subject-matter competency areas. APSU’s EM Minor provides broad-based exposure to the body of knowledge of value and relevance to emergency responders/first responders as well as emergency administrators with regard to preparing, mitigating, and responding to the natural and human-made disasters and emergencies. The EM minor is geared to assist in the education, training and development of professional emergency managers with reference to help them acquire or develop the following skills: (1) knowledge of the full-range of natural and technological threats facing the United States, (2) awareness about systems and techniques for managing community vulnerabilities, (3) knowledge of hazard vulnerability analysis, hazard mitigation, recovery, and response, (4) communication skills inside and outside organizations, and (5) organizational (management) skills, including strategic planning, human resources, and political management skills.
