High-achieving students are driven by a deep sense of curiosity about multiple areas of study. They want the opportunity to enrich their learning in an interdisciplinary context as well as to deepen their learning in their chosen field.  The Honors Program at Austin Peay provides both opportunities.

The program is open to students in all majors. Students have the opportunity to graduate with Honors by taking a combination of lower division (1000-2000 level) and upper-division (3000-4000 level) courses that are designated as Honors courses.  The Honors Program at APSU is discipline specific. That means that your required upper-division coursework in Honors will be in your major. Honors students also have the option to enroll in special seminars outside of their major.  Honors students are encouraged to study a foreign language and to study abroad.  A limited number of scholarships is available through the Honors Program to assist students who wish to study abroad.  Honors students receive multiple benefits including priority registration and 24 hour a day access to the Honors Commons.

Students who enter the program as freshmen must choose either option A or option B to meet the requirements in order to graduate from the Honors Program:

Option A:

Complete a minimum of twenty-five hours of Honors coursework to be distributed as follows:

Freshman HON 1000; HON 1045  HON 2220
Sophomore HON 2510 HON 2510
Junior Course designated by department Course designated by department
Senior HON 4050* or equivalent HON 4050* or equivalent

*All students in option A must complete a thesis, a project, or accomplish additional assignments connected with their student teaching (Education majors) or clinicals (Nursing students).

Option B:

Same as above except that students will not take the HON 4050 courses but will instead complete honors coursework at the 3000 - 4000 level for a total of 25 hours of credit.

*The requirements for transfer students are established on an individual basis.
