Health and Social Justice Minor

Drawing from interdisciplinary perspectives, this minor is designed to highlight the systemic correlates of health and disease. Students will develop an understanding of inequities in health outcomes related to race ethnicity, class, gender, sexual identity, gender identity, and other sociocultural factors. Students will explore health consequences of chronic stress related to experiences of discrimination, oppression, poverty, and working and living conditions. Identifying community needs and developing strategies for improvement are emphasized. This minor prepares students for careers in advocacy and non-profit sectors, healthcare, counseling, education, research, and others.
