Studying abroad is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore the world and gain resume-building experience while earning college credits. Participating in a study abroad program benefits students personally, academically, and professionally.

Personal Benefits:

  • Gain confidence
  • Acquire new and diverse friends
  • Establish independence

Academic Benefits:

  • Earn college credit at APSU
  • Participating in summer and winter programs can potentially expedite graduation

Professional Benefits:

  • Acquire job skills employers value (communication, flexibility, adaptability, cultural sensitivity)
  • Build a network
  • Prepare for a globalized society
  • Become a more competitive applicant

APSU students can become global citizens by participating in a short-term, exchange, consortium, or internship abroad program. Financial Aid may be available for students to use to reduce the cost of studying or interning abroad.

Short-term programs last roughly one to six weeks. Courses are taught by APSU or non-APSU faculty members depending on the program. Usually, students earn 3-8 APSU credit hours in these programs.

Exchange programs last a semester or a full academic year. Students will study at a partner institution or at an institution that is sponsored by a 3rd party provider. Students will earn at least 12 APSU credit hours. Rather than traveling with a group of APSU students and faculty, you will travel independently.

Consortium programs are study abroad programs organized and shared by several institutions. If you choose to take part in a consortium program, you will travel with students and faculty from APSU and other universities, but earn APSU credit hours.

International Internships offer the opportunity to work in an international setting. These placements are typically unpaid and can last anywhere from five to nine weeks.
