Interdisciplinary Health and Social Justice Certificate

Drawing from interdisciplinary perspectives, this 12 credit program is designed to highlight the systemic correlates of health, disease and healthcare. Students will develop an understanding of inequities in health outcomes related to race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual identity, gender identity, and other sociocultural factors. Students will explore health consequences of chronic stress related to experiences of discrimination, oppression, poverty, working and living conditions. Through this program, students will critically analyze and strategize the roles of public health educators, practitioners and community members to promote health equity. Students will be required to take IHSJ 2500 - Health and Social Justice - and then choose three courses across three disciplines for a total of 12 credits.
